In 2016, Giovanni Rosso and Davide Fregonese discovered an extraordinary estate on the slopes of Mount Etna.
Fourteen hectares of terraced vineyards unfold at the foot of Montedolce, an ancient dormant crater,
with the unmistakable silhouette of the volcano rising in the background.
Captivated by the power and beauty of this volcanic landscape,
they acquired the property and began producing their own Sicilian wines,
bringing to this extreme terroir the rigor, discipline, and savoir-faire shaped in the Barolo tradition.
Today, Tenuta Montedolce welcomes guests for refined wine experiences.
Why I chose Etna. The challenge of a new terroir

For years, my search for a terroir that could express my winemaking vision led me across many lands. In May 2016, I discovered the wild, distinctive character of Etna – a challenge I had long been seeking.
At the foot of Montedolce, an ancient dormant crater, an extraordinary microclimate and volcanic soils rich in lava sand create ideal conditions for viticulture at 750 meters above sea level. Here, Nerello Mascalese and Carricante thrive, expressing the true soul of Etna.
Our work balances the savoir-faire of the Langhe with the raw power of this volcanic land. I believe every wine should tell the story of its territory with authenticity and elegance.
Back to my roots, answering Etna’s call

I have returned home. After years away, my return became an act of reconnection. The Langhe shaped me, but it was Etna – its primordial force and generous soil – that truly called me.
Together with Davide Rosso, we united two worlds: the elegance of the Langhe and the raw power of Sicily. From this vision, Bugia Nen was born – a symbol of determination and resilience. Here, Nerello Mascalese and Carricante express a volcanic land that welcomed us as both challenge and opportunity. Our wines honor tradition while blending Piedmontese heritage with Etna’s untamed character.
